IWI US, a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., began shipping its new Galil ACE pistol (GAP39-II) in June to shooters who were part of the GAP39 recall and opted for a replacement in lieu of a refund.

Wholesale distributors will began receiving the first commercial quantities of the GAP39-II in the beginning of June.

The recall of all the original Galil ACE (GAP39) pistols was ordered due to the pistol’s receiver, which featured a 3-pin (3-hole) fire control group construction. While these pistols cannot fire automatically, BATF&E has historically held that AK type receivers with 3-pin (3-hole) fire control groups are, by definition, machine gun receivers.

Accordingly, all owners (FFL Dealers or Consumers) of a GAP39 pistol were required to return their firearms to IWI US, for either a full refund or for a replacement with a 2-pin (2-hole) pistol within 90 to 120 days.

The new GAP39-II contains the proper receiver with a 2-pin (2-hole) fire control group construction.

In addition to the Galil ACE pistol, complete Galil ACE rifles are expected to start shipping by mid to late June, while the Galil ACE pistols with stabilizing braces are expected to begin shipping to distributors within the next 60 days.

The modernized Galil ACE is based upon the reliable mechanism of the original Galil assault rifle first developed by IMI in the late 1960s. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Russian AK-47 and the Finnish Valmet RK 62, the current IWI Galil ACE has seen a number of improvements over the years.

Improvements made since the original Galil was first developed include the charging handle (reciprocating) moved to the left side of the milled steel receiver, allowing for weak hand operation. Additional advancements include weight reduction with the use of modern polymers, AKM/AK-47 magazine compatibility, full-length two-piece Picatinny top rail and fully adjustable iron sights with Tritium front post. There is also a Picatinny tri-rail forearm with built-in, slide on/off rail covers with pressure switch access.

The GAP39-II is not available for sale in California or Massachusetts. Magazine capacity restrictions may apply in other states.
